Challenge

Add new living and dining space, and a working studio, to a dark and uninspiring conventional detached house in the centre of the City.

Solution

The building was opened up to the south facing elevation and three new extensions added to reorientate the building towards the sun. Brick was chosen for its tactile qualities, longevity and to contrast with the original pebble-dash render finish. It was fully exploited through special detailing, innovative use as a brick screen to the new guest bedroom and by sympathetic application to steps and paving to the front of the house.
