The renovated farmhouse complex is an important example of the historic architecture of the area. The challenge was to provide external hard landscaping sympathetic to the character of the building and surrounding space.
The farm buildings had been restored in a low-key fashion, retaining original construction materials wherever possible. Ibstock Sandfaced Ibstock Hamsey Mixed Stock bricks, which provided a texture and hue in keeping with the original historic brickwork, had been chosen for repairs to existing external walls and were matched with Ibstock Hamsey Mixed Stock Pavers for the central courtyard and associated hard landscaping. A range of brick-built access options, incorporating linear and curvilinear rampways and elegant low walls, and external steps of varying width, ensure ease of access to all hostel buildings.
