Ibstock Brick was delighted to be a sponsor of this year’s Building Design Architect of the Year Awards, sponsoring the Public Building Architect of the Year category.
The awards, which took place on April 18 in London, were launched in 2004 and reward UK architectural practices responsible for the best overall achievement within a particular sector, as judged by a panel of industry experts.
Haworth Tompkins’ winning entry in this strongly contested category comprised of three theatres and a church. Bridge Theatre, near Tower Bridge, is London’s first new commercial theatre of scale to be built for 80 years. The practice also completed a £4.3m refurbishment of the Bush Theatre in Shepherd’s Bush and is working on a transformation of Bristol Old Vic. In north London, Haworth Tompkins also has planning permission for a radical redevelopment of Holy Trinity church on Finchley Road.
Southern Specification Manager Jason Robinson commented: “We’d like to congratulate all the architectural practices who made the shortlist for the Public Building Architect of the Year category. Haworth Tompkin’s ambitious projects proved the practice was a worthy winner of this award. It was a great to be part of this year’s Building Design Awards and see all the fantastic projects that are being produced by innovative and forward-thinking architects.”
